Hector Batista has been appointed to be the new Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC. Batista is the first Hispanic Executive Director in the non-profit’s 106-year history.
“I am honored to be part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City, and I am truly excited to work with this wonderful organization,” said Batista. “So many young people are in need of a positive role model in their lives, and I am committed to ensuring that Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City provides that invaluable service to a growing part of this city’s youth.” Batista comes to BBBS of NYC from The Way to Work (formerly Vocational Foundation, Inc.), where he was Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure at The Way to Work, he bolstered the group’s status as one of the nation’s leading youth workforce development programs. One of Batista’s goals at Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC will be to expand its Workplace Mentoring Program, a collaborative effort between schools and corporations that introduces students to the world of business through one-to-one mentoring relationships. Prior to his time at The Way to Work, Batista served as Executive Vice President of the American Cancer Society’s NY Metropolitan Region. A long-time civic and non-profit leader, Batista began his career in the Brooklyn Borough President’s office and was appointed by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as First Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
“Under Hector’s leadership, Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City looks forward to broadening our reach throughout the five boroughs and touching the lives of more young people and mentors,” said Laura Parsons, Chair of the Board. “Hector has a proven record of success in working with organizations that have a positive impact on the people of New York. We are delighted that Hector has chosen to champion BBBS of NYC.”
