Linking Thousands of Human Service Agencies

Engel Joins ARCS

Therese Engel has joined AIDS-Related Community Services (ARCS) as its new Program Supervisor for Client Services in Westchester and Putnam Counties.

Engel brings over thirty years of experience in the field of human services, most recently as a contract administrator for Downey Side in the Bronx. Prior to that, she worked in homeless shelters in White Plains and Peekskill.

“I was drawn to this position at ARCS because of its variety and its challenges,” Engel says. She will supervise four programs: food pantries and nutritional services; transportation; chemical dependency counseling; and grant-funded case management. “I look forward to utilizing all of my previous skills to oversee such diverse programs.” She was also interested in working in Westchester and Putnam counties, and connecting ARCS to a network of other providers. “Coalition-building is very important to me. It’s the only way to do it.”

Engel holds a B.A. from Hunter College and a Masters in Counseling from Fordham University. For much of her career she has specialized in rehabilitation counseling, addiction treatment and dual disorders. She was a faculty member at Yale University for five years where she developed a ground-breaking inpatient program for dual disorders. Engel also served as a rehabilitation counselor in psychiatric hospitals and day treatment programs. In 2006, Engel received the inaugural Westchester County Friends and Voices of Recovery’s “Advocate of the Year” Award.

“Terri’s wealth of experience is a definite asset to ARCS and to our clients,” says Andi Shurin, ARCS’ Deputy Executive Director, “and we are thrilled to have her join the ARCS team.”
