CCBQ Senior Center Gets “Extreme Makeover” PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 22 April 2011 06:24

Catholic Charities Catherine Sheridan Senior Center in Jackson Heights, Queens underwent an “extreme makeover” on Saturday, April 16th as part of Scranton University’s Day of Service. Several older adults from the Catherine Sheridan welcomed approximately twenty alumni members from the Scranton Club of New York who participated in this makeover project which included painting, cleaning and other general tasks to help keep this bustling senior center a vibrant part of the community. Paint and supplies were provided by The Home Depot.

For over thirty years, the Catholic Charities Catherine Sheridan Senior Center has been serving the community in Jackson Heights, Queens.  Every weekday, over 150 enthusiastic older adults gather at the bustling senior center  to take part in numerous multicultural activities and classes including tai chi, yoga, salsa dancing, ESL classes, art classes, celebrations, enjoy hot lunches and much more. Thanks to our community partnerships with the University of Scranton and The Home Depot, seniors at our Catherine Sheridan Senior Center will continue to feel at home in a welcoming and beautiful environment.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ 19 Senior Centers are vital in serving over 8,200 older adults each year.  For many older adults, these senior centers are a home away from home where they not only receive hot meals but participate in various activities that keep them young at heart.  Our senior centers offer recreational and multicultural activities, hot lunches, home delivered meals, entitlement counseling, crucial social services, and the necessary support so that older adults can continue to live in their homes and in their neighborhoods as they age.  Additionally, Catholic Charities distributes 1 million meals to the elderly and homebound each year.
