The loss of ACS-funded group home programs – and what it means for youth who now call those homes “home” – was the subject of a report by CNN’s Campbell Brown earlier this week.  A CNN camera crew and producer visited with residents at one of several MercyFirst group homes that will be closing because of ACS' decision to end most contracts for this level of care.  Residents talked about their lives in foster care and what living in a group home has meant to them.

“The youth involved in this segment all wanted to advocate for themselves on this issue,” said Jerry McCaffrey, CEO at MercyFirst.  “They were eager to speak to CNN about the important role the group homes have played in their lives.  It is important to note that they also felt strongly that they want these programs to remain open not only for themselves but also for other youth who will come after them.”

The CNN clip also features comments by MercyFirst COO Elizabeth McCarthy.
