Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and Catholic Charities Progress of Peoples Development Corporation hosted their 2011 Bishop's Testimonial Award Reception on Wednesday, November 9th.  The event, which was held at State 6, Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, raised more than $450,000 in support of the organizations' programs.

Nicholas Lembo, Founder and President for Monadnock Construction, Inc., and MDG Design and Construction received the 2011 Progress of Peoples Achievement Award for their outstanding leadership and commitment to affordable housing and community development. Most Reverend Guy A. Sansaricq, Retired Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn, received the 2011 Ubi Caritas Deus Ibi Award.

Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D, Bishop of Brooklyn presided over the event. Ken Rosato, Anchor of WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Established by Lembo in 1975, Monadnock Construction Inc. is presently one of the largest and most reputable residential contractors in the New York area. Monadnock has built over 10,000 units of housing, including luxury hi-rises, modular and site built town homes, mid-rise affordable housing, dormitories, supportive housing, assisted living and senior housing.

Metropolitan Development Group (MDG) Design and Construction was formed in 1988 by Michael Rooney and Nicola DeAcetis to purchase affordable housing in New York City and then expanded over the years to include development, general contracting, architectural, financial consulting, and real estate management.  In the past 15 years, MDG has developed or constructed over 11,000 units of affordable housing at a cost in excess of $600,000,000. This includes over 1,600 affordable condos and co-ops, 180 brownstones and townhouses and over 9,600 affordable rental housing units.

Bishop Sansaricq was ordained a priest in Port-a-Prince, Haiti in 1960, and served the early years of his ministry in Haiti and the Bahamas.  He came to Brooklyn where he has ministered for the past forty years. In 2006 he became the first foreign-born Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
