SCO Opens Family Development Center PDF Print E-mail

SCO Family of Services held a Community Breakfast on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the newest location of their Family Development Center.

The new Family Development Center, located in Corona Plaza in Corona, Queens, is SCO’s third such facility in Northwest Queens. The other two are located in Woodside and Jackson Heights. Together, the three centers will serve over 1,000 families in crisis each year.

The new Family Development Center provides a blend of in-home and community-based services committed to helping families residing in the Corona area. Family counseling, community service programs and early childhood programs sustain and nurture families – providing the building blocks to support a healthy community. In addition, the Family Development Center’s “Single Stop” provides free consultation regarding financial, legal and personal issues; an Advocacy Clinic offering benefits counseling; and EITC tax refund filing and free tax filing assistance for low income families and individuals. Services are free and in English and Spanish.

“The more services families have available to them, the bigger impact we can have,” said SCO Executive Director Robert McMahon. “By offering a variety of services such as Baby & Me, Parent-Child Home, Single Stop and Family Counseling all in one place, we are able to make a real difference in the lives of families throughout the Corona community.”

Bob McMahon went on to thank the many community leaders in attendance and speak about the positive outcomes already being achieved by working together to meet the needs of the community’s families.

Rudy Greco, representing New York State Senator Malcolm Smith, congratulated SCO Family of Services for opening the new Family Development Center site in this high need neighborhood that will truly benefit from its services.
