The Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies raised over $100,000 at its October 14, 2009 Annual Gala, which honored Katie Couric and Senator Liz Krueger. Katie Couric, Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, Correspondent on 60 Minutes and active member of the New York community, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her willingness to inform her audience about important issues and to raise funds for humanitarian causes. New York State Senator Liz Krueger, a long-time champion for New Yorkers in need, was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for dedicating her career to issues relating to poverty, advocating for tenants’ rights, affordable housing and social services. “We were delighted to be able to honor two remarkable women this year, and were honored that Katie and Liz chose to take time from their busy schedules to spend their evening with us,” said Fatima Goldman, Executive Director / CEO of FPWA. “Their participation in this event helped us raise critical funds for the programs and services that we provide to almost 300 human service agencies and churches, which operate over 1,000 programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City.” The Gala was hosted by Mutual of America at their event space at 320 Park Avenue. The funds raised at the event will be used to support FPWA’s programs and services for the nearly 300 human service programs and church-based social service programs in its network.
