The Education & Assistance Corporation (EAC) has received a very generous $40,000 grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation to support their work with the homeless, through a program called the Employment Readiness Initiative (ERI).
ERI provides free vocational and supportive services to homeless individuals and families of Nassau County, with a goal towards helping them to become self-sufficient. ERI’s dedicated staff works in collaboration with homeless shelters to teach work readiness skills and provide employment referrals and case management services.
“Because of JPMorgan’s support, we will be able to bring vital employment services to the homeless of Nassau County,” said Alyssa Sanchez, Program Director. “When we help people learn the skills they need to become independent of the shelter system, we are giving them the greatest gift - hope for a life free from the devastation of homelessness. If they can become productive, self-sufficient members of the community, everyone benefits.” This initiative, which began in 2008, helps hundreds of Nassau County residents every year overcome the unique barriers to employment faced by the homeless.
EAC’s network of 70 programs protect children, create opportunities for seniors, promote healthy families and communities, empower people through employment and education, and provide alternatives for people with substance abuse and mental health needs. EAC effectively helped more than 62,500 people last year.
