The Bridge Gets $100K from van Ameringen Foundation to Establish the Road To Recovery PDF Print E-mail

The van Ameringen Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to The Bridge, a provider of mental health and housing services, to establish an innovative Road to Recovery Program (R2R).   The program is targeted to Bridge residential clients who have been chronically homeless or had long stays in State psychiatric or correctional facilities to provide them with an introductory readiness experience prior to participating in more formal recovery programs such as PROS or Supported Employment.

“The Road to Recovery Program represents an innovative collaboration between The Bridge and The van Ameringen Foundation to address the needs of many of our clients who are new to our housing and not yet engaged in formal rehabilitation programs," said Cynthia Wainwright, President of the Board of Directors of The Bridge. "We are so grateful that van Ameringen Foundation has joined with us in this important demonstration project.”

Bridge Executive Director Dr. Peter Beitchman noted that The R2R Program is designed to fill a gap in the existing system.  “With the NY/NY III housing initiative and the implementation of PROS, The Bridge has recognized that many high need clients need a preparatory step on their rehabilitation.  R2R, with its team of an occupational therapist and peer specialist will engage clients in a variety of activities designed to support them in taking their first steps toward recovery.
