Unique People Services (UPS) hosted its first benefit reception and silent auction celebrating 20 years of providing services to people with HIV/AIDS, mental illness and developmental disabilities. The event was held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Riverside Church, New York City.
Cheryl Wills, author and NY1 Anchor was the Master of Ceremonies. Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz, Jr. was honored along with business leaders, community advocates and consumers. A Proclamation was received from the Mayor’s office, which declared October 13, 2011 “Unique People Services Day”. Proclamations were also received from Council Members Elizabeth Crowley of Queens and Joel Rivera of th Bronx; as well as from NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera.
Executive Director, Yvette Brissett-Andrè was delighted with the success of the agency's premier benefit reception and silent auction, “Over 200 people attended our 20th Anniversary celebration and UPS grossed $100k”," she said.
“October 13, 2011 marked a very special occasion and a monumental milestone for our organization," she added. "We have continued the work begun 20 years ago by the founder of UPS, the late Lynn Wonsang. We have maintained her vision by providing homes where our individuals receiving services can live richer lives because we address the fundamental needs most often unavailable to them.”
