Two senior centers operated by Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens recently underwent an “extreme makeover” with the help of volunteers from St. John's University and The Home Depot. Beneficiaries of the effort were seniors at the Peter J. DellaMonica Center in Astoria, Queens and the Pete McGuinness Center in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
The effort was part of St. John’s University Tenth Annual University Service Day. Seniors from the centers welcomed students from St. John’s University who participated in this makeover project which included painting, cleaning and other general tasks to help keep the lively senior center a vibrant part of the community. St. John’s students were also present at various other Catholic Charities locations throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Paint and supplies were generously provided by The Home Depot.
CCBQ's 16 Senior Centers are vital in creating communities throughout Brooklyn and Queens serving over 8,000 older adults each year.
