Executives from the cable and advertising industries gave up their day jobs – at least for one night last week – and traded their storyboards for electric guitars as they performed at the “Citymeals-on-Wheels Battle of the Bands: Rock The Decades” at The Highline Ballroom. In the process, they raised $267,000 for the organization – enough to provide 40,000 meals for frail, isolated homebound elderly New Yorkers.
This event featured four bands—all comprising cable network and ad agency professionals in this annual effort to raise money for Citymeals. “The Sound of Madness,” “All Grown Up,” “Shem’s Disciples,” and “Dead Till Tuesday” all competed for a spot on “Fearless Music,” a television program dedicated to showing up and coming stars in the music industry. “Dead Till Tuesday” were selected as the winners by a panel of music experts.
“This is a battle worth fighting,” said Marcia Stein, executive director of Citymeals-on-Wheels. “If it weren’t for fundraising events like this, so many frail, elderly, homebound New Yorkers simply wouldn’t have enough to eat or have the companionship that comes from our meal deliveries. I would like to thank the bands and all of our sponsors for recognizing the important work Citymeals does to remain a lifeline to our homebound elderly neighbors.”
