Local Nonprofits Get Elton John AIDS Foundation Grants PDF Print E-mail

Fourteen New York nonprofits were among the 56 recipients of $4.4 million in December 2013 grants announced by the Elton John AIDS Foundation on January 13th.   The grants bring the EJAF’s total grants for 2013 to more than $7.3 million.

The 21 new and 35 renewal grants support organizations working to address some of the most critical challenges presented by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States and the Caribbean.  This grant cycle targets populations that include gay and bisexual men, prison inmates, injection drug users, Black Americans, and young people.  Grantee activities include: HIV prevention; testing, treatment, and care services; legal services; organization development; and policy and advocacy.

Local grantees and grant amounts are:

  • American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, $150,000;
  • American Fertility Association, $100,000;
  • Bailey House, Inc., $15,000;
  • The Center for HIV Law and Policy, $100,000;
  • Correctional Association of NY, $50,000;
  • The Fortune Society, $50,000;
  • Friends in Deed, $30,000;
  • Health People, Inc., $50,000;
  • HEAT Program/Research Foundation of SUNY, $15,000;
  • Hetrick-Martin Institute, $50,000;
  • Queerocracy, $20,000;
  • St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, $25,000;
  • Trinity Lutheran Church, $35,000;
  • Urban Justice Center, $50,000.
