The Food Bank for Westchester, which is celebrating its 20th year of fighting hunger in Westchester, recently hosted its 19th annual An Evening in Good Taste to help end childhood hunger in Westchester County. More than 630 people attended the event, which raised $220,000.
“We are grateful to the chefs, restaurants and donors for supporting such an important initiative. It is our hope that we can be a leader in helping to end childhood hunger,” said Christina Rohatynskyj, Executive Director of the Food Bank for Westchester.
“Research has shown that children who live in food insecure households have difficulty learning and are less likely to become healthy, productive members of society,” Rohatynskyj added, noting that 20% of Westchester residents are hungry or at risk of hunger. Of that population, 36% are children.
The event featured “Incredible New Edibles” which showed off the County’s unique artisan/boutique foods and wines, for which judges and attendees voted. The People’s Choice Award was given to Millerton-based Harney & Sons Fine Teas for its Japanese green tea and Chai spice ice creams. Judges voted Mamaroneck-based Luke’s Brew as the best Incredible New Edible for its cold brewed coffee. |
