Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic Health Plan, recently announced the distribution of $227,020  from its Community Grant Fund to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens in order to promote our programs and services which help those in need throughout the boroughs.  Fidelis Care made the 2010 Fidelis Care Community Grant Fund available to eight different Roman Catholic Dioceses throughout New York State to foster strong communities and create enduring partnerships with non-profit organizations that serve low-income families and individuals.

“We extend our thanks to Fidelis Care for their continued support and for their dedication to the work of Catholic Charities and for helping those in need,” said Robert Siebel, Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens.  The grant will support the continuation of our Parish and Community Services programs which serve families and individuals in need, as well as our health related programs and initiatives in our early childhood programs. Additionally, the grant will support the work of our Fatherhood Program which helps single parent families obtain the medical care and health insurance they need so that they and their children can live healthier lives.

Catholic Charities currently offers nearly 180 programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, the developmentally disabled, the mentally ill, and the formerly homeless for over 110 years. Last year, CCBQ helped 91,250 people and prepared 3,000,000 meals for those in need. It also served over 2,400 children through our early childhood programs and over 8,000 older adults at our 16 senior centers. Additionally, as one of the largest faith-based providers of affordable housing for low-income individuals and families in New York City, Catholic Charities provides  3,700 units of affordable housing for low-income seniors, families, and the formerly homeless, including 750 units of special needs housing throughout Brooklyn and Queens.
